What is one of the ways CAJE supports Jewish Professionals working with teens to become more effective in their field?
The answer: CAJE’s Kavanah Coaching Workshops for Jewish professionals.
The goal of our Kavanah Coaching Workshops is for professionals who work with teens to acquire the tools they need to guide teens towards finding meaning, joy, and relevance in their lives.
Kavanah Coaching Workshops teach our teen professionals the specific skills of coaching and applying Jewish knowledge to life issues, which is often what these professionals are called upon to do, but don’t actually have any training to do.
In 2017, CAJE applied to the prestigious Covenant Foundation with its idea of Kavanah Coach Training program, and received the maximum grant amount of $150,000 to develop a 60-hour program for Youth Professionals in coaching skills.
Carly Orshan, CAJE’s Director of Teen Education and Engagement, developed an extensive curriculum (2018-2019) and began training the first Cohort in the Spring of 2019.
Covid hit and the cohort had to finish its last sessions online in the Fall 2020.
In 2020, a program evaluation revealed that the experience was impactful for participants but they found the training too long.
Further, CAJE realized that online learning gave us the opportunity to widen the scope of our audience and become a national resource to Teen Youth Professionals.
As a result, CAJE designed a new, virtual model that would engage both local and national professionals working with teens in shorter workshops that focus on topics that they identified are most relevant to them and also align with the coaching curriculum.
This past Spring 2022, we offered this new iteration of Kavanah Coaching to 15 professionals from Miami and from across the country and received glowing feedback about the program.
100% of the participants said that they would highly recommend the workshops to others.
Many professionals reflected that they enjoyed connecting with professionals in the field across the United States doing similar work. They also expressed gratitude for the content, format, educational methodologies used, and learning experience overall.
This coming Fall 2022 Cohort will take place from October to December.
Each participant will receive a box with fun and educational materials (see the video above) to prepare and excite them for the weeks to come.
Thanks to the generous support of the Covenant Foundation, the workshop is free of charge and participants receive a gift card to use as a food stipend and/or to further their coaching journey.
